UNEXPECTED DAY

SHORTFILM

MIA, a 17-year-old teenager living in Miami, is going through an increasingly tense relationship with her parents while trying to figure out who she is and what place she occupies in the world. Sensitive, observant, and emotionally overwhelmed by constant silences and family arguments, she finds refuge in IKER, her boyfriend and first love, with whom she shares small moments of freedom away from the pressure of her home.

Based on a true story, Unexpected Day portrays the intimate universe of a teenage girl beginning to awaken to love, independence, and the desire to live her own life. While her parents struggle to hold together a worn-out relationship, MIA feels increasingly distant from them and more connected to the need to make her own decisions.

Everything unfolds over the course of a single weekend. The family must attend a wedding, an event that represents, for the adults, the obligation to keep up appearances and move forward despite their emotional wounds. But for MIA, that day has a different meaning: after weeks of messages, secrets, and stolen encounters, she has finally arranged to spend the night with IKER at her house. At the last minute, she decides not to go with her parents and stay home alone.

What begins as a day of teenage rebellion, emotional discovery, and the first impulses of freedom slowly turns into an irreversible experience. Between the intimacy of her first love and the feeling of being free for the first time, MIA will live through the final hours of innocence before facing an unexpected event that will change her life forever.

With a sensitive and naturalistic approach, the short film explores family bonds, adolescent emotional awakening, and the fragility of those everyday moments that seem insignificant until they become memories impossible to recover. Unexpected Day is about growing up overnight, about the things we never get to say, and about how a single decision can alter an entire life.
